Aim of the module (expected learning outcomes and competencies to be acquired):
Students know and understand
- the economic logics of globalization
- an institutionalist interpretation of globalization
- the role of the institutional environment
- competitive advantages in global competition
- multinational firms as governance structures
Reflexion: Critical discussion of course contents in the lectures and tutorials.
Transfer and application of the knowledge acquired in the lectures to the more practically oriented project part of the course as well as case studies and exercises.

A. A theoretical framework for the field of International Management
- The New Institutional Economics
B. The institutional environments of multinational corporations
- Description, economic explanation, challenge for multinationals
C. Market relations of multinational corporations
- The management of discrete and relational transactions
- Standardization vs. differentiation
D. The internal coordination in multinational corporations
- Organizational structures - International human resource management
